A7 question, making it a sealed cabinet,,?????

has anyone ever closed an A7 cabinet making it a sealed box and if so what were the results,,??

I did my mods, filled the bells, woofer bell, doubled the cabinet from 3/4" to 1.5", dimpled acoustic foam most all of the interior and built a great crossover I received from an audio engineer that really smooths the horn,, was thinking of mounting the horn in a panel and then using that panel to close off the cabinet running it in a sealed mode,, curious if others have tried,,

    thanks

Me and others have cut off the reflex section to seal them, but the whole cab is large enough to abruptly roll off the horn below ~150 Hz and due to this unbalanced air load on the driver it may sound less smooth. Only one way to know for sure though.

This is a frequency response graph from the A7/MR994A data sheet that shows a dip in response right below 200Hz. This is where the bass-horn drops off. The lower peak in this response is the port.

Sealing the cabinet should result in a loss of the lower peak.

have never really been happy with the bass the 416As offered when just playing the VOTs and music in two channel,, do have a SVS 13 ultra for the LFE when the movies and surrounds are playing,,

was considering sealing the cabinets and going with the 15" Dayton DC380 crossing at 1200,,

the new crossover I built has the 806A driver and 811B horn really flat from 900 to 15K,,

Hard to say. You might get more grunt out of it, but it will take ~5X the power.
Below is a plot of the 416-8A in sealed and ported A7 bass boxes. And the Dayton at 5 watts to make up for level.

Hard to say because 416 T/S parameters can be very different. These are default, not measured parameters. So YMMV
